Sleeping in a Hammock Vs. a Tent

Hammock Versus Tent? What's the difference?

When it comes to sleeping outdoors there are a few things you need to consider.

How many things can you bring?

If you are going on a backpacking trip it is tough to bring many things. You would have to pack a tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, and an optional pillow or blanket. After all that you don't have any room for your food.  If you are backpacking and you sleep in a hammock you only need a sleeping bag or just a blanket.

Where are you going?

If you are going to a desert where there are no trees, it is best to take a tent. If you don't have a hammock stand you will need trees to hang it on. Now if you are going to the mountains or somewhere with trees then go ahead and bring the hammock. It's a minute set up and you can put it anywhere you would like to.

What is your budget?

Camping can be expensive and have you seen the price of tents lately. They can be up to $500. Wow, that's a lot. If you bring a tent you also have to get some sort of sleeping mat or else you are on rocks and sticks. Then you have to get a sleeping bag plus all the other tools you will need. If you get a hammock you only need to pay $30 one time. It is a way more affordable route to take when camping.

How many people are going?

If you are going somewhere with not a lot of cleared-out ground coverage it can be hard to set up a bunch of tents. We all know how much it sucks to sleep on rocks or sticks. If you are going with a lot of people and you don't want to cram into a small tent or have to pay a lot for one that will fit you all. Each of you can get a hammock. Or two people can sleep in one!
